- Reviews and ratings posted about us on platforms like Checkatrade, Trustpilot, Google and Facebook
- Information from estate agents, conveyancers or removal brokers if they introduce a move to us
3. Why we use your data, and our lawful basis
UK GDPR requires us to have a lawful basis for every type of processing we do. Our bases are:
Performance of a contract – to quote for your move, perform the move itself, provide storage, take payment, handle claims, and any related services you book with us. Without this, we cannot do the job.
Legitimate interests – to run JR Removals as a business. Specifically:
- responding to enquiries
- improving our service and staff training
- preventing fraud and protecting our property
- analysing how our website is used (in aggregate)
- pursuing unpaid invoices
- protecting our legal rights
Legal obligation – to comply with UK tax, accounting, health and safety, customs (for international moves) and other regulatory requirements.
Consent – where you have explicitly opted in. This applies to marketing emails, non-essential cookies, and any optional contact you’ve agreed to. You can withdraw consent at any time – see Section 7.
4. Who we share your data with
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
We do share it, where necessary, with:
- Our staff and crew – so they can perform your move
- Sub-contracted carriers and partner removal companies – where we use them to deliver part of a move (most commonly on long-distance, international, or capacity overflow jobs)
- Storage partners – if your goods are placed in a third-party storage facility
- Payment processors – to take card payments and bank transfers [TBC: name your card processor, e.g. Stripe, GoCardless]
- Booking, CRM and quoting platforms – including [TBC: list real platforms, e.g. i-mve.com for self-surveys, GoHighLevel for CRM and email]
- Website analytics and marketing platforms – including Google Analytics 4 – only where you have consented through our cookie banner
- Professional advisers – our accountants, insurers, solicitors, and our trade bodies (Association of Independent Movers, Move Assured, Trading Standards) where required
- HMRC, customs authorities and other government bodies – where the law requires us to disclose information, such as on international moves
- Anyone we are legally required to share with – including courts, regulators and law enforcement
We require all our processors to handle your data securely and only use it for the purpose we engage them for.
5. International data transfers
JR Removals operates moves to and from countries outside the UK, including Ireland, mainland Europe and beyond. Where we transfer your personal data outside the UK to deliver your move, we do so under appropriate safeguards – either to a country recognised by the UK as providing adequate protection, or under the International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA) or UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
If you would like more information about how we protect your data on international moves, please contact us.
6. How long we keep your data

How long we keep it |
| Quote requests where no move was booked |
12 months from the quote date |
| Booking and move records (contracts, job sheets, inventories) |

- Right of access – to be told what data we hold about you and to receive a copy of it

- Limiting access to your data to staff who need it to do their jobs
- Using reputable hosting, CRM and booking providers with strong security commitments
- Encrypting data in transit (HTTPS) on our website
- Securing our office, storage facility and vehicles with appropriate physical controls
- Training our team on data protection and confidentiality
No system is ever completely secure. If we ever become aware of a personal data breach that is likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify the ICO within 72 hours and, where the risk is high, we will notify you directly without undue delay.
10. Children
Our services are not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with their data, please contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or the law. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we will let you know more directly – by email if we have your address, or by a prominent notice on our website.
